	Khaled Hosseini was born in Afghanistan in 1965. In 1976, his family relocated to Paris. In 1980 the Hosseini family was to return to Afghanistan, but by then the country had witnessed a bloody coup and the Soviet invasion. His family was granted political asylum in the U.S., and settled in San Jose, CA, where he attended Santa Clara University and then graduated from UC San Diego School of Medicine.
